On December 10, 1956, Jackie Robinson signed a contract with Chock Full o’Nuts to
become the Vice President of Personnel, only hours before he was told of his trade to
the New York Giants by Dodgers’ Manager Buzzie Bavasi. Jack would concealed
his contract with Chock Full o’Nuts due to a preexisting contract from 1954 to give
Look magazine exclusive rights to his retirement story. Jack kept the charade until
the story Why I’m Quitting Baseball was released.
