The Property and Trustee Committee 2020 Annual Report
Fritz Reinhart, Chair Dawn Borden, Andrew Dearborn, John Lovell, Doulas Petersen, Norma Parrish
The Property Trustee Committee oversees the ongoing maintenance of the church building and parsonage as well as
plans and implements major renovations to both properties.
Although not the case for most things during the year, 2020 was relatively uneventful from the Property Trustees
perspective. As usual we encountered the usual types of building and landscape maintenance issues that are typical
for older properties. The pandemic lessened the need for basic cleaning of the facilities due to its lowered usage, but
increased our need to sanitize areas those areas that were being utilized.
We took advantage of the pandemic and the fact that no one was attending services in person at the end of the spring
and over the summer to have the sanctuary ceiling repaired and painted. We can’t wait for the whole congregation to
come and view it.
It should be noted that the funds for this project ($10,950) came out of the Property Maintenance Fund and not from
the PT Operating fund. Thanks to both Dawn Borden and Norma Parish for managing this project.
Some other minor things that the PT managed over the year:
• The parsonage got a new kitchen floor and sink that was necessitated by a leaky faucet that went undetected
for too long.
• Minor cosmetic repairs were made to the back side of the education wing to fix some damage from
woodpeckers.
• Damage to the chain fence separating the parking lot and Main St. was repaired.
Considering the age of both the church and the parsonage, both properties are in reasonably good condition. Property
Trustee spending came in under budget by ~1%. Using unofficial numbers at the time of this report writing, we
spent $61.900 for the parsonage and church maintenance/operation on a budget of $62,600. The PT’s try to keep
expenses down to a minimum and there is no “fluff” in our operating budget. We always make every effort to
maintain a balanced budget while keeping the church and parsonage in good working order.
Future Activities
Some of the activities that are being considered for 2021 are the following:
• Replacing the 70+ year old windows in the education wing on both the first and second floors.
• We need to address numerous cosmetic and functional issues at the Parsonage before they become
problems.
It is both an honor and a privilege to help maintain the church buildings and I and the rest of the PT’s appreciate your
support of our work. Please join me in thanking the rest of Property Trustee members for their continued work in this
unending endeavor. We are always looking for additional members that are willing to put a small amount of time into
the service of maintaining the church’ physical assets.
