Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Parents
to keep their masks on the entire time they are at school unless an adult provides direction for a mask-
break when certain conditions are met.
Q: Will seating charts be used?
A: To minimize contact among students, each classroom will create a seating chart. Depending on grade
level or building, this chart will be shared with special area teachers so that every attempt can be made to
limit the number of students who sit near each other. The seating chart will also be used in the cafeteria as
seating allows. Additionally, the seating chart will be used when contract tracing is needed.
Q: Will there be opportunities to take students outdoors on days that the weather permits?
A: Teachers can take students outside on weather-permitting days. They will work with principals on a
case-by-case basis to be approved to take a classroom outside. Physical education classes will continue to
be encouraged to take students outdoors when weather permits.
Q: What procedures should be followed for Chromebook usage?
A: Students in Grades K-8 will be provided a district-owned device (Kindergarten: iPads and Grades 1-
8: Chromebooks). Students in Grades 9-12 will be encouraged to bring their own electronic devices.
Students who do not have access to bring a device will be provided a device.
Q: What will the classroom look like?
A: The classroom will have individual desks. Students will sit at least 6 feet apart typically with an
empty desk in between. The teacher will be located at the front of the classroom with a 6-foot distance
between himself/ herself and the students. Paper, tissue paper, fabric, moveable carpets, fabric dividers,
and other decorations will be removed to promote a sanitary environment. Small group tables will not be
utilized during this time.
Q: Will classroom materials such as manipulatives be used?
A: Shared objects are highly discouraged unless critical to instruction. A cleaning process would be
managed within the classroom.
Q: Will the students have to sit in the same seat all day (grades K-3)?
A: No, students will transition for lunch, recess, and various breaks throughout the school day. The
volume of students will be reduced via the concept of A and B days for students in grades 4-12. Students
will receive the majority of their instruction in the same seat (Mainly K-6). Mask breaks and brain breaks
will be encouraged to help keep students engaged. Mask breaks will be coordinated by adults only.
Q: How will social interactions occur?
A: Social interactions will still be able to occur through the use of physical distancing and Personal
Protective Equipment when physical distancing isn’t a viable option. See additional information about
lunch and recess for more information.
Q: Will there be opportunities for students to take their masks off?
A: Yes, students will have the opportunity to take their mask off when outdoors for recess and when
social distancing can be maintained (6 feet). Mask breaks will be scheduled on an as-needed basis at the
direction of adults only.
Q: How will students be assessed?
A: Student assessment will be done in a variety of formats to drive instruction. Students online as well as
