We find that Jesus had chosen the disciples;



             He had ordained them; He told them that



             they would bear fruit; and He told them that



             He would answer their prayers.




                    Now,  in  this  chapter,  we've  seen  a



             number  of  thoughts  and  a  number  of



             promises. We saw in verse 11 the promise



             of our joy being made full.  We also saw in



             verses 13 through 15 that Jesus said to His



             disciples, "You're my friends."  Now we have



             another  promise  given  to  us  in  verses  18



             through  21,  and  that  is  the  promise  of



             persecution.  One of the reasons I slowed



             down  and  took  verses  16  and  17  by



             themselves is because Jesus is assuring His



             disciples  in  verse  16  that  He  has  chosen
