served the creature more than the Creator,
who is blessed for ever. Amen.”
To pray for the destruction of our enemies is
considered to be an imprecatory prayer.
Romans 12:19 says, “Dearly beloved,
avenge not yourselves, but rather give place
unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is
mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” God is
perfectly able to destroy our enemies
without our intervention. In the New
Testament, God forbids those who belong
to Him to avenge themselves, but vengeance
is different from self-defense and self-
protection, and God was behind many Old
Testament battles with the enemies of His
people and even instructed them to
aggressively and militantly defend
themselves.
33
