The Swiss were of course well organised and had guides
placed outside to direct you to the underground car park on the
other side of the road. Checking in at the hotel, registration
with the club and the overall process was accomplished without
drama. We all picked up an itinerary for the weekend and saw
that we were in for “Swiss surprise” that evening. I imagined all
sorts of things you could do with a Toblerone, but realised I was
way off the mark when a couple of giant Swiss horns were
played on the hotel verandah by a couple of artists dressed in
their traditional outfits. We were then encouraged to attempt to
play the horns ourselves, needless to say with limited success!
Day 8/9 - Leysin
The stay in Leysin featured two days of
touring. I revisited the Mont Blanc view
and Lake Geneva with a different
group of Ulysses members and
enjoyed the banter throughout. Our
group got lost on the first day and
never completed the intended route,
but improvised and enjoyed ice cream
at a café instead of the packed lunch
which would have been provided.
Second day, we rebelled and
persuaded our leader to reverse the route and get to Mont Blanc viewing up by the hydroelectric lake
