If you don’t have a 4WD

Not everyone has a 4WD and not everyone wants to buy one,
but everyone wants to see Cape York.

So, what are the options?

You could hire a 4WD and have the freedom of making and
following your own plans all the way. One of the advantages
with this option is that when old mate at one of the roadhouses
tells you about this great spot just down the track, you’re in a
position to be able to go check it out. Do check for track or
location exclusions with your hire company though.

You may choose to let someone else do the planning and
driving and take an organised tour, or let others do the planning
while you do the driving as part of a tag-along.
Most tours depart from Cairns and generally range from 7 to 15
days. Some are safari/camping tours, while others provide a
range of fully catered for and accommodation options for the
whole trip. These tours supply most of your meals and some
include sufficient free time to indulge in 4WD, boating/island or
helicopter tours in addition to those in your itinerary.
Increasingly popular amongst adventure enthusiasts are vehicle
supplied (4WD and adventure motorcycle) guided tours. The
skills and knowledge you’ll pick up, to say nothing of the fun to
