of Cooktown on the Laura River, has both cabin and tent
accommodation.
Koolburra Station, 65km north of Laura on the Peninsula
Development Road, offers camping.

Jowalbinna
Still on the PDR, just north of Laura, a left turn brings you to
the northern entrance of Old Coach Rd - taking you past
Jowalbinna, the private road to Jarramali, and onto the
Maytown Ruins.
In the 1950s Percy Tresize - pilot, author, and artist – spotted
from the air areas likely to contain Aboriginal rock art which he
subsequently explored on foot. The greatest of which was the
Quinkan rock art near Laura.
Percy purchased the properties Jowalbinna and Deighton River
in order to establish a nature reserve for the conservation of
the natural environment and the protection of this Aboriginal
cultural heritage.
Percy also developed a campground; however, this has been
closed since the amenities were destroyed during a cyclone.
The sons of the late Percy, Steve and Matt Tresize, continue to
care for the property and its heritage, however, at time of
publication the camping facility is permanently closed.
