Mystery Ride
Today was Mother’s Day, so it was likely that many from our branch were doing family things.
It turned out that only 3 people fronted up for today’s mystery ride. It was a cool morning but
turned into quite a reasonable day to be out on a bike. The good thing about a small group is that
decisions are easier to make and we quickly decided that because some had other things to do
later in the day, we would just do a short ride more or less around the lake.
So this exclusive group headed down John Renshaw Drive and then turned off through Minmi
via Black hills and then along George Booth Drive to Richmond Vale Road which took us
through Mulbring. From Mulbring we followed Leggetts Drive through to the Oak at Freemans
Waterhole where we stopped and had morning tea. Given it was still fairly cool we decided to
have our coffee and cake inside.
After our break we remounted our bikes and headed through Cooranbong and into Wyee where
we turned off toward Mannering Park. Just before we got to Mannering Park people going the
other way were telling us that the police were out there. Sure enough, there was a RBT pulling
people over near the Mannering Park turn off. They were busy when we got there so we were
not stopped.
The rest of the ride took us through Doyalson North where we turned onto the Pacific Highway
and followed it to Belmont where Paul and Roger went their own way toward the western side of
the Lake Macquarie.
Thanks to those who attended. It was pleasant ride in good company and quite good conditions
after it warmed up a bit. In the end I had even turned my heated grips off.
A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and asked his Dad if he could start
using the family car.
The Dad said he’d make a deal with his son, “You bring your grades up from a C to
a B average, study your Bible a little and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about
the car”
The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer and
they agreed on it.
After about six weeks, the Dad said, “Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve
observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I’m disappointed you haven’t
had your hair cut.”
The boy said, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that, and I’ve noticed in my
studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair,
Moses had long hair, and there’s even strong evidence that Jesus had long hair.”
His Dad replied, “Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?”
