A ‘different’ rally
The ‘Twin Spurs rally’ is named aLer the Black and ReeLon spurs that run through the area the rally is held. Its run
by the Yarra Ranges branch. It has been awhile since Sue and I spent me with any of our friends from those years,
largely because they were in Melbourne’s lockdowns and as I was off the weekend of the rally, we found
accommoda on at Marysville where it was to be held. The Victorian Breakfast Club (VBC) was having it’s November
breakfast at the bakery there so that was extra incen ve. The rally centred on the Marysville caravan holiday park.
Most of us know what a rally should look like, and the Golden Dragon rally (GDR) we run fits the bill of a ‘proper’
rally. You pack your tent on a bike and head to some place normally out of the way, hang out with your biker mates,
preferably around a fire with a liquid refreshment in hand, and take it from there. There will be a ride going
somewhere, a band with a raffle happening, hopefully local catering will be organised for those who need it, and
showers are op onal extras. Even when we were s ll with the Yarra Ranges branch, the Twin Spurs was a different
rally, and this year wasn’t different in that respect.
The big problem this year was what can’t be planned: weather! Think single digit temperatures (in November!) with
winds blowing, solid rain predicted for the 3 days, and possible snow! Thankfully the weather wasn’t as bad as
predicted, but we noted on the Yarra Ranges branch Facebook page a number said they were coming by cars and we
succumbed in the end as well. I had to keep my ear dry for 3 days aLer my biopsy, and pu>ng a helmet on over the
dressing is not a lot of fun.
I had a morning shiL and Sue
finished earlier on Friday. So we
started the two and a half hour
drive aLer an early dinner, ge>ng
to our motel about 7.20pm. ALer
se1ling in, we walked over (in
light rain) to the caravan park.
They had 60+ having dinner at the
tavern in town, but were finished
by the me we walked in. It
wasn’t long before we were
mee ng familiar faces and joining
many in the camp kitchen. A fair
