JOE RIDER 2022
The combined Hunter Road Safety
Officers (RSO) of Port Stephens, Maitland,
Cessnock, Mid Coast and Singleton/Upper
Hunter Councils will be running the ‘Joe
Rider’ motorcycle awareness campaign as
part of our Motorcycle Awareness Month
activities in October 2022.
Joe Rider aims to reduce the occurrence
of SMIDSY crashes, and entails promoting
a week where the local community is
encouraged to spot ‘Joe Rider’ and enter a
competition. The goal of the campaign is
to encourage road users to look out for,
and notice motorcycle riders – particularly
in urban areas.
The Hunter wide campaign will run for one
week Monday 17 October 2022 to Friday 21 October 2022 during Motorcycle Awareness
Month.
Local volunteer motorcycle riders are currently being sought to be ‘Joe Rider’ for each day
of the week across each of the local government areas listed above. Hi Vis vests featuring
‘Joe Rider’ on the back will be provided to all of our ‘Joe’s’ to wear whilst volunteering. We
will also be providing refreshment vouchers for you to take a fatigue break during your ride.
If you or any member of your organisation would like to volunteer as ‘Joe’ for a day (or
more than one if you want) – we’d love to hear from you.
Those riders who are interested can register with some basic details;
Online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Joe_Rider_Registration_October2022, or
by contacting their local Council Road Safety Officer to register over the phone, or
attending in person by appointment to speak with your Council RSO.
