WEDNESDAY WANDERERS REPORTS

Nigel Penfold Wednesday Ride 20 July

With 9 times the number of riders that turned up on the Sunday before (ie 9) we set off for Bindoon
        via Gingin.
Despite the adequate warning about the hazardous road works stop lights at the southern end of
Old Yanchep Rd we pressed on regardless and were soon separated as a group, by said hazard.
A nice quick squirt down Wesco Rd, for some (I could not tell as I was over the hill and far away),
and then through Gibbs Rd and plenty of market gardens.
Ignoring Carabooda Rd I wondered what was further along, but soon found out and headed back,
no doubt building the confidence of the group in the leader of course.
Back to Cutler Rd then Old Yanchep Rd again for another quickish one.
Pretty uneventful until Chitna Rd where opportunities presented themselves again without prying
eyes, and east onto Gingin Brook Rd for a comfort stop in Gingin, at least for those with a pressing
        need.
A quick spin around the roundabout on Cockram Rd at the top of the hill south of Gingin, had at
least one person guessing Nigel had missed the regular turnoff. But no, I thought I could get around
before the corner marker arrived, but he was far too quick.
This way out of town was new for at least one of the group, and it avoids that stop sign on the hill
east of town. I am not keen on stop signs as I always stop, but a lot of people don’t, making it
        hazardous sometimes.
Always a bit of fun down the Mooliabeenie Rd and then Crest Hill Rd to the bakery at Bindoon.
Chittering Valley, the long way, a must in my book, with absolutely nothing on the road either way.
        Bliss.
I suspect corner marking broke down at Bullsbrook as I did 4 or 5 quick circles of the beautiful big
roundabout at Tonkin Highway and Neaves Rd before heading south and home.
I can’t recommend that particular roundabout too highly, it is just nice.
Nomi Hattingh was with us and I suspect it was her first Wednesday morning ride since her
        retirement 2 weeks ago.
A couple of people liked how I had stopped along the way to allow the group to catch up, but I did
point out that I was generally a little way in front anyway and even with 3 or 4 practice stops from
speed (to check how far it takes and without invoking ABS, and without heading off the road of
course) I was glad to stop and smell the roses.
I recommend practicing fast stops of course, but not if anyone is behind you naturally. One reason
I like to be tail end Charlie occasionally.
I enjoyed the ride, Chittering Valley is amongst my favourite spots to ride.
