He doesn't think he fits in with his old friends, so on the first day, he tries to keep a
a
b to himself until he encounters a new girl at school which just so happened to be b
c c
d Cassidy Thorpe. He joins the debate club with her and gets to know her better d
e during Spanish. The following day, his middle school best friend, Toby, who he’d e
f drifted off after the whole Disneyland incident, invites him and Cassidy to the f
g g
h lunch table with his friends from the debate and various other clubs. This was the h
i beginning of the new high school life he was gonna have to make the most out of, i
j the life where he would have to deal with more tragedies and make more friends j
k whilst letting go of many. k
l l
m On the surface, the book is made out to be a normal high school teenage romance m
n novel, however as the story progresses, the tragedies, plot twists, and themes the n
o o
p author has incorporated into the story make it anything but that. This story tugs p
q at the heartstrings all while delving into the darkest corners of school life, q
r exemplifying that true friendship isn't always about being popular and that the r
s filthiest people are almost always those at the top of the hierarchy, as well as s
t t
u asserting that while everyone undergoes a tragedy, it is what an individual will do u
v with it that characterises them. From the beginning to the end, I found a lot of v
w enjoyment and humour, yet there was also a lot of grief interwoven in each layer w
x x
y of humour, in each jab at his disability. y

It was a frustrating story to read since you didn't know what emotion you
a should've been expressing at each given moment. In the end, what brought me a
b b
c enormous satisfaction was the fact that Ezra began to understand life for what it c
d truly was, what it meant, who he might be, and what he could accomplish with it d
e in the future. He'd recognized that although tragedy had fragmented his life, it e
f f
g didn't mean it had to define who he was or how he lived. In fact, tragedy was g
h unavoidable and they would reshape someone into the person they would become h
i in the future, propelling them ahead on the path of life. i
j I genuinely enjoyed this book, and the only critique I have would be regarding the j
z k
a story's devastating ending. Considering how it kept me up till 3 a.m., I'd like to
caution future readers about it and although I didn't dislike it and to this day. I a
b b
c believe there could not have been a better ending, it still c
d didn't change the fact that it utterly shattered me. d
