BULLYING
This book is very realistic since it pictures how August gets
bullied and is socially isolated for being different; therefore I
think almost everyone will relate to this influential story. This
book efficiently puts light onto the theme of intolerance by
society towards someone who is different.
There are a lot of morals to take home from this book and has
helped me in many ways. Don't be afraid of differences and
don't follow the crowd. A lot of bullies find their strength in
the 'support' around them. If someone else is laughing at their
jokes or backing them up in some way, that person is actually
helping that bully do their job. Don’t judge a book by its cover
because you’ll never get the full story. Don’t hide. August
hides behind his astronaut helmet until one day he doesn’t
even know where it is. He begins to walk with confidence and
develops true friendships along the way, which help build up
the courage to not hide his face. This book varies with
emotions and makes us realize that everyone has a safe place.
The author delivered a powerful message about the importance
of being amiable, however, I recommend readers from the age
of 12 and above to read this wholesome book.
