A
Heroes of tHe Pandemic
Prashray Raj Shrestha
“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to perse-
vere and endure despite overwhelming obstacles.” This is a quote from
American actor Christopher Reeve. For the last 1 year or so most of
our lives have been tough. Covid-19 virus brought with it this pan-
demic which has made life miserable for most of us. The circumstanc-
es have been very appalling for the past year and a half. Even during such
a harsh time, many have persevered and worked for people’s welfare.
From the most globally recognized names to those who have gained pop-
ularity during the pandemic, numerous people have done deeds that have
massively helped people. From Marcus Rashford who contributed im-
mensely by feeding children in the UK to Sonu Sood who helped thou-
sands of people reunite with their family members, many big personalities
have put in their blood and sweat for the betterment of the world. They
have been well praised for what they did; however, there have been many
many unsung heroes as well. These people have helped thousands selflessly.
Sapna Roka Magar, an 18-year old girl, traveled from hospital to hos-
pital in Kathmandu to take unidentified bodies and perform their fi-
nal rites in Pashupati. Her immense and tireless efforts inspired innu-
merable people . At a very young age, she won the hearts of millions.
Laxmi Rayamajhi provided birth control aid in various rural areas of Nepal. She
would hike for hours to get to the village to begin her aid campaign. Due to her work,
she has received recognition from Bill gates and has been featured in his blog post.
Sikander Bizenjo helped his poverty-filled locality survive the pandemic with
all needed goods like water, food, clothes, medicines, and free healthcare camps.
Basira Popul, a dedicated polio worker of Afghanistan, has been dis-
tributing soap among the needy and has also educated people on the us-
age of soap with a hope that her locality would be completely Covid free.
During the pandemic, a series of events brought up the ‘black lives matter ‘
movement to ensure a safer world for black people all around the world . They
had been working to end racism . Amidst all this, Agnes Mwakatuma began
a campaign for free mental healthcare for black people living in London . Shil-
pashree A.S, Thabang Seleke, and Ethel are some of the personalities who have
helped people during this pandemic. The contribution that these people have
made shall be remembered even in the forthcoming years. Their hard work has
crafted a much easier world for us to live in. We all must be very grateful towards
these people. They truly deserve to be referred to as the heroes of the pandemic.
