Hipparchia parisatis Kollar, 1849 White-Bordered Grayling

A distinctive species, easily recognized by wide white-fringed
hindwing upper sides, two large underside forewing eyespots
encircled by yellow and two smaller underside hindwing
eyespots, one of which is occasionally vestigial. A clearly
#
defined brown underside post median line, partial on the
forewing, is shaded in light grey. These characters set the
species apart from other local Hipparchia spp. For a long time
the single historical (1889) Levant record (Hatay Prov.) shown
in Hesselbarth et al., (1995), was indicative that the species is

Anatolia 650-2200 m (Hesselbarth et al., (1995(2): 915);
observed (after summer aestivation) in September 100-500
m in Hatay (Atahan et al., 2018: 76) but certainly appeared
earlier in May-June; April-June over 450 m at least to 2150
m and again after summer aestivation of both genders in E
Arabia (Larsen & Larsen (1980: 51), Schmidt et al., (2020)).
/LIH KLVWRU\ univoltine, hibernate in mid-summer months,
early stages unknown.
