Introduction to החיתפ
Sefer Chafetz Chayim
                                     Laveen - L15

and they confront Levi. Shimon tells Reuven- “Now go and repeat what היה ןינעה םא מ"מ טושפ רבד אוה הז ןפואבש פ"עאו
you said to me in his presence!” Reuven then clothes himself with the
personality traits of cruelty and brazenness and responds to Levi: “You ופרח םא ןוגכ םיאריה ירבד יפל ג"עצ אוה ךפיהל
told me such-and-such about Shimon” (and again Reuven violates the Lav ןינעל יתנוכ ןיאו ןוממ ןינעב ונממ םוקנל רתומ םא
of “Do not peddle gossip”). Immediately Levi is embarrassed and his face
blushes red (and immediately Reuven is in violation of the Lav of “Do אצויכו ח"מגו הקדצו םילכ תליאש ןינעל קר ו"ח לזג
not commit a sin because of him.”) Levi answers “Although it is true םוקנל רתומ אפוגד ארעצ ירעצד ןויכ אמינ ימ ,הזב
that I spoke about you, Shimon, it was in a completely different context
and a completely different tone of voice. We all know that things can be
understood differently just based on the way something is said.”
answers, “Even if you deny it a thousand times I will not believe what
you said since Reuven repeated it right in front of you (and immediately ונממ עונמל ו"כאע ול השעש ומכ ףוגה רעצ ורעצלו
Shimon violates the Lav of “Do not believe a false report,” as I explained
above that from the perspective of the Torah, one (Shimon) may not
believe that the remark (that Reuven spoke to Shimon) is true. Do you ל"נה אמויד
think that just because this evil man, Reuven, had the audacity to confront
Levi, that the Lav of “Do not accept a false report” becomes permissible?!
(I will explain this further, with G‑d’s help, in the second halacha of Kelal
             Zayin.)
From this you see just how many Laveen are violated because people
enjoy this disgusting personality trait (of “Oys Feerin”).
have followed the ways of the Hashem Yitbarach's Torah, he would
have remained quiet and resolved himself to being suspected as a liar by
Shimon because of the remarks he made about Levi. He should not have
gone with Shimon to confront Levi and add more sins on top of the initial
sin of theRechilut that he spoke. G‑d should protect us from this terrible
             personality trait. .

Mekor Hachayim
L15. If these people were orphans or widows (15), even if they
were wealthy, and he decided to degrade them in their presence,
he further violates the Lav of (Shemot 22:21) “Do not torment a
widow or an orphan.” The Torah warns us (in very harsh terms) not
to abuse \ torment or cause them anguish or pain. The punishment
for the person who violates this Lav is explicit in the Torah (Shemot
22:23) “My wrath will be aroused and I will kill you by the sword
and your wives will become widows and your children orphans.”
