Oblong Deck Mat

F YOU HAVE THE time and the material, this makes a very fine
Imat to collect any shore side dirt before visitors board your
boat. At home it makes a handsome door mat that will give years
of use. I find that 10mm rope gives a good balance between cost,
size and time in making, but do use whatever material you can
lay your hands on. If the rope is 3 stranded it is possible to make
a very neat mat side splice, that is almost invisible after a little
use and will allow you to turn the mat over to even out the wear.
Tied in 6mm, you can make a place mat for the galley table.

MATERIALS A mat with 5 passes: about 700mm x 450mm,
needs 45m of 10mm (preferably 3 strand) rope
A mat with 5 passes: about 250mm x 160mm,
needs 17m of 6mm rope
