A Pair of Fancy
Spliced Chest Beckets
HE SIMPLEST OF ROPE handles for a chest can be made from
Ta piece of rope short-spliced together to form a circle. The
short splice gives a greater diameter to the rope and is therefore
more comfortable to the hands when lifting a heavy chest. Add
a little decoration to this style of handle by making the splice
with extra long ends and, rather than trimming them at each
end of the splice, these ends are used to make diamond knots
round the body of the rope. Chest beckets made like this are
quick to do, but still have a bit of style. You can of course go on
and add Turk’s heads etc to your heart’s content.
