My complete palette includes: Grumbacher - Raw Sienna, Cadmium Yellow Light, and Ultramarine Blue Deep. Winsor & Newton - Lamp Black. These colors are not needed in this painting but are good to have on the palette.
The way I create my mixes is by placing a ruler under glass and measuring the length out of the tube.
COLOR MIXES
LIGHT NO. 1
Hint: Should be slightly golden. This is the color for the lighter warm tones.
5 inches Titanium White+3⁄4 inch Yellow Ochre+1⁄8 inch Cadmium Red Light
LIGHT NO. 2
Hint: A rosier tone than Light No. 1.
43⁄4 inches Titanium White+3⁄4 inch Yellow Ochre+
1⁄4 inch Cadmium Red Light+1⁄8 inch Cerulean Blue Hue
LIGHT NO. 3
Hint: A medium rosy tone grayed with Cerulean Blue Hue. 41⁄8 inches Titanium White+3⁄4 inch Yellow Ochre+3⁄8 inch Cadmium Red Light+1⁄8 inch Cerulean Blue Hue
HALFTONE NO. 1
Hint: This should be a khaki-greenish tone. If too green, adjust with a touch of Cadmium Red Light.
41⁄2 inches Titanium White+1 inch Yellow Ochre+5⁄8 inch Viridian+1⁄8 inch Cadmium Red Light
HALFTONE NO. 2
Hint: This is a warm, dark basic color used in shadows. Often lightened and warmed with Halftone No. 1 or dark- ened with Alizarin Crimson or Cadmium Red Light. This is a deeper rose tone than Light No. 3.

LET’S PAINT
Lay out palette as follows:
TOP ROW: Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Burnt Sienna Deep, Burnt Umber, Viridian, Chromium Oxide Green, Cerulean Blue Hue, Ivory Black. Place Titanium White.
LOWER ROW: Light No. 1, Light No. 2, Light No. 3, Half- tone No. 1, Halftone No. 2, Dark No. 1, Dark No. 2, Neutral No. 3, Neutral No. 5, and Neutral No. 7.
DARK NO. 1
Hint: A slightly cool, medium dark tone used often in shadows, warmed with Halftone No. 2, cooled with Half- tone No. 1, or darkened with Alizarin Crimson.
2 inches Burnt Sienna Deep+11⁄2 inches Titanium White+13⁄8 inches Viridian+7⁄8 inch Cadmium Orange
DARK NO. 2
A deeper dark tone warmed often with Alizarin Crimson or darkened with Chromium Oxide Green.

NEUTRAL NO. 3
Hint: This is a warm, light gray.

FLESH TONE MIXTURES
Mix flesh tones with measurements provided below or use Jon Sanden Oils.
STEP ONE
SANTA’S RED HAT
Starting with the top of Santa’s hat, using a no. 3 fil- bert brush, darken Grumbacher Red (Naphthol) with Ivory Black. Shade the underneath side and the crease. Paint remaining hat with Grumbacher Red (Naphthol) and highlight with Cadmium Red Light.
Add crease lines in forehead with Dark No. 1 and Half- tone No. 2. Smile lines around eyes are Dark No. 1 and
