3. How to fit a Suit (Continued)
Trainee time : 20 mins
□ Part 1: Taking proper measurements to get the right fit
□ Chest - Measure under the arms, across the fullest part of the
chest. Make sure their arms are down to the sides as their chest will
expand up to 1 inch by doing so. Make sure to always stand to the
side of the customer to avoid being in their personal space
□ Overarm - With their arms down by their sides, you will measure in
the same section as the chest, but this time it will be over the arms.
If the chest and overarm measurements are different by 8” or more,
you will need to go up one blazer size for the proper fit
□ Neck - At the base of the neck, wrap the measuring tape loosely.
You should be able to fit 2 fingers between their back and the tape.
This measurement will allow you to grab the correct shirt size
before they head into the change room
□ Sleeve - Standing behind the customer, place the start of the
measuring tape at the base of the neck. Move the tape towards the
end of their shoulder and then straight down their arm until you
meet the wrist bone. This measurement will tell you if they need a
short (32”) a regular (34”) or a tall (36”)
□ Outseam - Standing beside the customer, take a measurement
starting at the waist. Pull the measuring tape all the way down to
the ground. By removing 10” from this measurement, you will get
their inseam. This allows you to know if they need a short (40” or
30” inseam) a regular (42” or 32” inseam) or a tall (44” or 34”
inseam)
