Principle 1 Delivering Authentic Customer Experiences
• What can you do to create a great first impression with
your ideal customer?
Minding your own business
Many small business owners set up because they are passionate
about what they do…and they’re damn good at it! Unfortunately,
being good at something, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be
adept at dealing with the business functions or be able to make a
living out of it. This can mean that the company suffers
commercially because you default to what you know and do best
and fail to keep your eye on the business ball.
Doing something you love is fabulous, but not if it blinds you to
the tough reality of running a business. This involves promoting
your services, generating sales, answering enquiries, managing
the accounts, completing tax returns, managing communication
networks, licensing, insurances, recruiting the right people etc.
etc. Even if you are business savvy, it’s easy to get bogged down
with activities that might be better or more cost-effectively
tackled by other members of your team or outsourced to a
specialist. Doing this, will leave you the time and energy to focus
on the profit-producing tasks to grow your business and increase
your profit margins.
Reacquainting yourself with your ambitions, motives and a few
fundamentals ensures you get the basics right with regard to the
commercial viability of your business strategy, positioning and
attitude. Think about it…what’s the reason you’re in business? Is
it one of these?
• Exit - to develop a successful company and sell it at a profit
• Lifestyle - to fit around your lifestyle and allow you to
spend time doing other things you love
