                                                                                                                                                 We work hard to allow the site to inform every design decision we make. 65 Aerie Drive’s orientation and form is our response to the panoramic

                                                                                                                                                 mountain views, the immediate tangible landscape, and the natural topography. By splitting the home into two parts, we were able to orient the two
                                                                                                                                                 halves in different directions to capitalize on the two distinct mountain ranges that form the panoramic view. To further capture the view, we cantilevered
                                                                                                                                                 the living room a full seventeen feet and replaced the walls with windows, bringing the view into the living room, dining room, and kitchen at the same

                                                                                                                                                 time. The relationships between the three spaces were carefully studied to maximize the views from each. For example, the angle and height of the living
                                                                                                                                                 room’s roof was adjusted to perfectly capture the view of Buffalo Mountain from the kitchen sink.


                                                                                                                                                 We used carefully placed windows to frame views of the water features and the many other aspects of the site. The stone walls that form the East and
                                                                                                                                                 West edges of the kitchen and dining area stop at the bottom of the vaulted ceiling, allowing glass to fill the space to the peak. This makes the roof

                                                                                                                                                 appear to be floating as it soars through the windows and extends to the exterior while simultaneously framing the hillside covered in aspens to the east.
