Employee Development Planning
22
Drilling down to the specific types of development, the following was observed:
• Across all employee profiles, shadowing and mentoring were the top development types reported as given too infrequently.
• Eighty five percent of hostile employees reported coaching from their boss as too infrequent, compared to only 32 percent of engaged employees. Similarly, 65 percent of engaged employees reported receiving the right amount of coaching from their bosses, while only 10 percent of hostile employees said coaching from their bosses was the right amount. This was the single greatest difference among the options.
• On average across all employee profiles, three items received ratings greater than 40 percent for the “right amount”: coaching from a team member, webinars, and online courses.
• Of all professional development types, webinars and online training were most often reported across all employee profiles as being offered too frequently. This potentially indicates that employees would rather receive face-to-face training.
