The annual Business Excellence Awards Gala Dinner was a fabulous night of celebration and an
opportunity to recognise the part our amazing local businesses / organisations play in our region’s

Hortus’ journey began with a small (seemed big at the time) personal loan, a van load
of staff, and the dining table as an office, moving quickly to a tiny portacom on the
edge of a vineyard. Fourteen years later and with a lot of sweat, tenacity, and risk,
Hortus is becoming a sizable business by New Zealand standards. Today Hortus
employs 70+ permanent staff, over 800+ RSE and 200+ backpackers and Kiwis for
PRIMARY SECTOR WINNER seasonal work every year. Hortus has been operating close to 14 years and is currently
in a high-growth phase. Our head office is in Blenheim, Marlborough, and we’ve set

plans in motion to expand nationally and internationally. Founder and owner, Aaron
Jay believes “we have created a business that empowers people to achieve their
version of success and a business that makes a deep impact in the Islands”. We are
extremely proud of where we are today and the future ahead.

Marlborough Youth Trust (MYT) is actively working towards bringing our local youth
organisation to the next level. We are inspired by our community's commitment and
passion for instigating progressive action for our youth through the provision of
essential youth development programmes and services delivered by MYT.

MYT has experienced considerable growth in the past two years, attracting over
COMMUNITY IMPACT FINALIST 30,000 visitors annually. Our goal is to build confidence in young people, to help
them connect and provide them with opportunities to contribute.
