Ready. Set. Retire!
people withdraw more, putting their later financial stability in
jeopardy.
They know this. That’s why so many Boomers are so
concerned about their retirements. But let’s assume I am
someone who understands the stakes and I commit to the
“Less Now, More Later” model.
What if I die sooner? What if I retire at age 65 and die before
70? Well, I don’t run out of money – my greatest fear – but I
also cheat myself out of the better quality of life I could have
had if I had known about my shortened shelf life. We call this
“Long Life vs. Good Life,” because that’s the choice, right?
Do I plan for a long life, scaling way back on withdrawals now,
or do I elect a better lifestyle, thereby putting my future
retirement years in real economic peril?
Is there a better way? According to Wall Street, T. Rowe Price,
and most financial advisors, no. You just have to cut back and
hope for the best. Remember the quote from Christine
Fahlund:
