THE PROBLEM
COVID-19 pandemic is an apocalyptic event
of the 21st century. It has created a crisis of
unprecedented proportion in the world in
general and the world of work in particular. It
brought life and most economic activities to a
grinding halt. The places of mass congregation
like schools/colleges/training institutions were
one of the worst casualties. Like other such
training institutions in the country, NADP was
also shut down and the traditional face-to-face
classroom training became irrelevant and
redundant.
However, the need for training as a process
for development of knowledge, skill and
attitude to enhance competencies for better
job performance, is a constant in every
organisation, more so in those which are
operating in a competitive environment like the
Ordnance factories. During the pandemic,
responding to the call of the nation, Ordnance
factories were also making pioneering efforts to
participate in and remain at the vanguard of the
national mission to fight the pandemic through
various technological innovations. The 1500
odd officers of the ordnance factories
organisation were committed to the goals of
the organisation and mission of the nation. To
keep them motivated and ready for challenges,
continuous learning and development
programs to upgrade their competencies, were
an imperative need of the hour.

THE CHALLENGE
How to continue with un-interrupted training
process with the same effectiveness in times
of institutional closure.
The responsibility of finding a solution to
the above problem, primarily rested with the
National Academy of Defence Production,
being the premier training institution of the
ordnance factories organisation.
If necessity is the mother of invention, crisis
is the fertile ground for innovations. An
unfamiliar story about the COVID pandemic is
that it has led to a process called
techcceleration. It is boosting innovation and
has accelerated the adoption of technologies
and pushed the world faster into the future. It
has transformed many businesses and also the
people's relationship to work. Remote work is
here to stay. Working From Home is the most
significant innovation coming out of the
pandemic.
Some of the most ground breaking ideas
require right opportunities and circumstances
to demonstrate their values. E-learning as a
technology has existed for the past few
decades. E-Learning was predicted to transform
world education but such predictions had fallen
flat. Until COVID-19 struck and the potential of
remote learning has become clear. And it soon
became the dominant solution to learning
needs during the pandemic scenario.
