THE MANAGING DIRECTOR
Before I leave “The Standard” I must add that the Managing
Director and Proprietor of the Lincolnshire Standard
Newspaper Group, Lionel Robinson, he who “carpeted” me for
my misdemeanours, became a valued supporter, as indeed did
many of my previous “Advertiser clients”, during the time in
1984/5 when I was Chairman of Governors at the William
Lovell Secondary School, and led the successful fight for its
very existence.

CHAPTER 2
GETTING MARRIED
We were married during my time working for the
Lincolnshire Standard Group, consequently, despite the fact
that several of the following stories happened before our
marriage; this seems the best place to relate this tale.
Looking through this second book for the umpteenth time I
have just realised there is no actual detail of Ruth and I getting
“spliced”. I had better remedy that here by firstly mentioning
that I have also put it all in here because it was really all my
boss’s fault, that and Eddie Hazlewood our office manager at
the “Standard” in Boston.
