expressed clearly that my mother must have dropped off the
scales in his estimations of her worth!
He explained clearly and concisely that the “Deed Poll”
document he would prepare for me to change my family name
to the one that people currently knew me by, would have to
remain in my possession for the rest of my life.
What on earth Ruth made of all this tarry-diddle she did
not let on and was constantly most supportive.
From that day to this, every time I have to produce a “Birth
Certificate” for any official reason wherever in the World.
I have to relate the whole tale that goes with the two
different documents and two different names. All because my
Mother chose to put her first husband’s name on my birth
certificate instead of her boy friend’s name who everyone said
was my father.
