One reason was that I needed to “escape” from my family
home because of the intense pressure I was under from my
mother “not to get married”.
Even I, the actual person involved, was not aware that the
reason was that she (my mother) had never in my 20 years
ever revealed to me that she married my father after I was
born and that my surname on my birth certificate was that of
her first husband.
My father had recently suffered a heart attack and was
convalescing at home. Mother used all kinds of moral
blackmail to try and prevent my marriage. Little did she know
that I had already squared it with my father but even he dare
not let on the real truth to me!
