            37  SAFE LOADING, UNLOADING, TRANSPORTATION & UNLOADING OF MATERIALS
                 USING RIGID AND ARTICULATED VEHICLES


                    To be used in conjunction with company risk assessments.

                    Safe Loading Rules

                   1.  Ensure the vehicle being loaded is suitable for the products to be carried.
                   2.  Always report to responsible person on site and obey site safety and traffic rules,
                   3.  Follow all site instructions and position vehicle safely at loading point.
                   4.  Take extra care when opening sheets or rear doors in high winds, open one door
                        at a time and ensure that  the door is correctly secured to the trailer  body to
                        prevent it sailing in the wind.
                   5.  If you need to access the vehicle or trailer body then always use the fitted ladder
                        and use three points of contact. Do Not Jump.
                   6.  If possible, supervise the loading process, always being aware of site Health &
                        Safety requirements.
                   7.  Never stand on the body while vehicle is being loaded, or in any area where
                        vehicle/plant/machinery movements are taking place.
                   8.  Ensure that load is distributed evenly from side to side and from front to rear. This
                        should prevent unsafe or illegal loading.
                   9.  When  loaded,  ensure  that  any  load  securing  and  sheeting  requirements  are
                        carried out safely, using the site designated area, if appropriate.
                   10. If there are any concerns with regards to the load, either gross or individual axle
                        weights, or load security, then report to site staff for guidance. Report all details
                        to the Transport Manager.
                   11. Ensure you wear / use appropriate PPE including high vis clothing and safety
                        boots at all times
                   12. Never enter the public highway with an overloaded vehicle.
