            25  Mobile Phones, Hand Held Devices and Portable Equipment (Sat Nav’s, PDA’s etc)



                                                          The company has a strict policy with regards to the
                                                          use  of  hand-held  mobile  phones,  handheld
                                                          devices  and  any  portable  electronics  equipment
                                                          whilst driving company vehicles or operating any
                                                          item of plant.

                                                          All FTL Ltd vehicles are fitted with Bluetooth
                                                          kits and phone cradles.

                                                          If this equipment is faulty, please report to your
                                                          Manager  immediately  who  will  organise  a
                                                          replacement.

             To ensure safety it is FTL policy that you must ensure it is safe to make or receive
             calls. Do not use any handheld device whilst driving, parked in traffic or stationary
                  on the highway. Only use the phone cradle and or Bluetooth kit provided.

            The use of hand-held mobiles or devices whilst driving is illegal and strictly prohibited under
            our Health & Safety Policy as it is extremely dangerous.

            Failure to comply with will be considered gross misconduct and disciplinary action will be
            taken.


            If you are caught by the Police and accept a roadside fixed penalty notice, you will receive
            points on your licence and a fine. If a case goes to court, in addition to points, you could
            face discretionary disqualification on top of a maximum fine of £1,000 (or £2,500 in the
            case of drivers of buses/coaches and goods vehicles)


            You must be stationary, with the handbrake applied and ideally off of the highway before
            using your hand-held device. Failure to do so could mean you face a fine and disciplinary
            procedures.

            26  Eye Tests

            Before driving any company vehicle, you will be asked to complete a basic sight test this will
            require you to be able to read (with glasses or contact lenses, if necessary) a car number plate
            made after 1 September 2001 from 20 metres. (This test will be conducted on a recurring 6-
            month basis)

            You must also have a horizontal visual field of at least 160 degrees, the
            extension should be at least 70 degrees left and right and 30 degrees up
            and down. No defects should be present within a radius of the central 30
            degrees.
