20 Bridge Strike and Overhanging Trees

Drivers of LGV’s must always be aware of their
vehicle height to avoid collision with bridges and
                  any overhanging obstruction. Particular attention
should be paid to overhanging trees particularly
on narrow roads. Collision with a bridge will
inevitably cause severe vehicle damage and
likely personal injury and upset customers and
                  members of the public.

Remember that Car Sat Navs and APPS will not
direct you to avoid low bridges. Only use LGV
                  Sat Nav equipment.

            21 Articulated vehicles

When driving an articulated vehicle, you must follow rules as to where the unloading
area is situated. Curtain sided vehicle drivers must be aware of weather and wind
conditions and speak to the Transport Manager if conditions are becoming less
                  favourable.

            22 Overhead Cables

Drivers of all Company vehicles must be aware of overhead
cables before entering any site or unclassified roads.

Drivers must also be aware of cables that may be obscured by
                  trees or bushes.

Contact with overhead power cables could result in death or serious injury under no
circumstances should you attempt to get out of the cab or touch any metal objects in
your cab if cables are touched. If cables are touched attempt to make a phone call
using your mobile telephone and wait for help to arrive.

Also be aware of flash over which is where your vehicle gets within conducting distance
and the electricity can jump across to your vehicle, keep a safe distance of 10 meters
                  away from overhead power lines.
