If the driver loses sight of the reversing assistant at any time, they must stop
and not move until the assistant is in his line of vision and eye contact has
                    been re-established.

The driver is ultimately responsible for his own vehicle manoeuvre with or
without a reverse assistant! The driver is to instruct the reversing assistant if
                    help is required.

The driver must ensure that if the assistance of a reversing assistant/banksman is
required that only fully trained persons provide assistance.

                    Vehicle Daily Checks

It is essential that daily vehicle checks are carried out before leaving the yard and that Pre-
Drive is completed’ this must include the mirrors, rear-view camera, reverse alarm and
flashing beacons to be operational as these safety items can help you reverse safely.

If these essential safety items are not working the vehicle MUST NOT leave the yard. It is
the duty of all drivers to report any defects to the Transport or Workshop Manager and
ensure that it is logged on Pre-drive on that day.

You will then be instructed on what will be done to resolve the defect.

            9.20.2 When reversing remember:

The driver should never reverse unless he is 100% certain there are no persons,
other vehicles, plant or obstructions behind the vehicle; If there is any doubt or
you do not have a good view or a clear signal from the reverse assistant you Must:
                    Stop, Get Out And Look.

Always check your mirrors and rear-view camera immediately prior to and during
                    reversing and keep checking them.

If using an assistant, never reverse until the assistant is in position and has signalled
that in their opinion it is safe to start reversing.
Reversing assistants should never walk backwards while giving signals and ensure
the driver can see them at all times.
Reversing assistants should remain vigilant and avoid distractions.

If the Reversing Assistant starts to disappear from view then Stop and wait until they
are clearly visible and eye contact has been made.

Drivers must ensure that their vehicle daily checks are completed every day and that
any defects particularly with reverse aids are reported immediately to your manager.
Mirrors & windows must be kept clean and clear at all times and adjusted correctly.
