Unless you are in a suitable stopping point well away from the road, do not stay in the vehicle.
Make sure you get out of the vehicle in a safe way, ensuring the road around you is clear.
Wear your full High Visibility PPE so that you can easily be seen.
If you break down on a motorway, to ensure the safety of yourself and passengers, you should
vacate the vehicle from the nearside cab door and stand away from the vehicle on the verge
where it is safe to do so.
Contact your Transport Manager to arrange suitable recovery, please ensure that they have
your mobile telephone number so you can be contacted away from the vehicle if required.
Leave your side lights on if possible and use hazard lights and beacons to draw attention to
your stationary vehicle, do not put yourself in danger. Ensure you and any passengers are
wearing high visibility clothing when you exit the vehicle.
If you are a lone female, we request that you advise the recovery service of this when reporting
