Challenge two
A starboard tacking Boambillee causing crash tack fits on Mercedes III and Acrospire III dropping below her course line.
Never fear, Boambillee had her moments when approaching the RMYS C mark. Mercedes III had more stress on her RMYS
Mark C approach and attempted rounding.
The sight of the day was from the RMYS Race tower.
Being a gaff rigged cutter there is no way Acrospire III can match the upwind pointing angle of Kingurra. This situation
applied to both laps of the course where there was a beat from the RMYS D Mark to the C Mark. So there was a considerable
distance between these two classics each time when Acrospire III rounded Mark E Watching Acrospire III steaming down
to catch Kingurra on the two runs from the RMYS C Mark to the E mark.your Race committee deemed that being able to
watch this from the tower had to be the sight of the day.
Two laps was the call.
When the fleet leaders Acrospire III and Kingurra crossed the lap one line with Boambillee close by and Mercedes III
sailing desperately to catch these three classics the once more around call was greeted with a great cheer.
It was on this final beat where the wind swung to the west and Acrospire III was sent way down from the windward beat
track of Kingurra, Watching Acrospire III make up this loss of ground on Kingurra by the RMYS D Mark that confirmed
the race committee decision that this sight of Classic Yachts racing on Port Phillip was worthy of being deemed the sight
of the day.
