These effects, shown after only one month of regular

consumption, are attributed to the unique NONI iridoid

active fraction.

Particularly relevant to these clinical effects are the

biochemical capability of NONI (glycosides/ flavonol-

glycosides iridoids, lignan components) to inhibit blood

LDL-oxidation toxicity, a key atherogenic factor, which

has been attributed to both a direct free radical

scavenging activity of the preparation, and to its marked

lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase activities. NONI also

exerts a direct protective effect on endothelial cells

from the cytotoxic hydroperoxides produced by

extensive LDL oxidation. Notably, damnacanthal, a trace

anthraquinone component of NONI fruit, has been

shown to contribute to BIO REX® NONI remarkable anti-

inflammatory action through the suppression of

nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB) activity response, with

resulting inhibition of the expression of pro-

inflammatory cytokines, cyclooxygenase-2, and

inducible nitric oxide synthase.
