a. Active Member: Any person in public or private service in this state whose duties,
directly or in an enforcement, regulatory, or support position, relate to law
enforcement. *Any Active Member who is assigned to a duty station outside of the
State of Texas by his employer may retain Active membership. All honorably retired
Active Members may retain Active membership.
b. Life Active Member: All Past-Presidents of the Association. In addition, each year,
one Active member who has rendered great service to the Association may be
selected by the Executive Committee.
c. Associate Member: Any law abiding company, agency, or individual who desires to
assist the Association in its effort to improve the police profession.
d. Honorary Life Member: Non-members who have rendered great and meritorious
service to law enforcement in general. Such Honorary Life member shall be elected
by voting members in attendance at the Annual Association Meeting upon
recommendation of the Executive Committee.
e. Affiliate Member:
1. Individual - Spouses of deceased Active and Life Active members of the
Association and persons not eligible for membership as Active members but
whose activities are closely related to the objectives of the Association.
2. Agency Educational - Enforcement Agencies may elect to enroll their
personnel as Educational Affiliate members by following the procedures
established by the Executive Director. Such members shall be entitled to a
subscription to the Texas Police Journal, including the Legal Digest and such
other educational materials which may be provided from time to time. Such
members shall be offered the opportunity to upgrade their status to Active
member by payment of an amount determined by the Executive Committee
necessary to cover cost of insurance.
3. Student - Those persons enrolled in college and university law enforcement
programs are eligible for Student Affiliate membership by following the
procedures established by the office of the Executive Director.
f. Sustaining Member: Individuals, businesses, or corporations who make major
financial contributions to the Texas Police Association.

Section 3 Voting Privileges
Only Active and Life Active members shall have voting privileges.

Section 4 Application for Membership
Every person desirous of becoming a member of this Association shall file his
application with the Executive Director. Upon the receipt of the application and the
required fee, the Executive Director will, if the application meets the requirements for
membership, issue membership credentials.

Section 5 Membership Dues
a. Dues shall be for a 12 month period dating from the date of approval of
membership. Renewals will extend on a 12 month basis from the date of original
membership.
b. Life Active Members, Honorary Life Members, and spouses of deceased Active
Members who are Affiliate Members shall not be required to pay membership dues.
c. Dues for Associate and Sustaining Members may be established by the Executive
Committee without notice. Dues for all other classes of membership shall be
established by the Executive Committee after a minimum of three months notice in
the Texas Police Journal.

Section 6 Membership Removal
a. Any member whose dues are in arrears for two months shall be notified in writing by
the Executive Director after which, if he fails to remit his dues within 30 days, the
Executive Director shall drop said member from the membership roles and submit a
report of such action to the next meeting of the Executive Committee.
b. When a member has been convicted of a criminal offense resulting in the revocation
of license(s) issued by the State or when a member has been publicly charged and
