        PROPOSED PROJECTS
Regional Seminars for Sheriffs and their Deputies
A conference was held with Mr. Lewis Berry, Executive Secretary of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas,
relative to organizing and conducting a series of regional seminars for sheriffs and their deputies, with
emphasis on the executive of civil processes. Although this subject is not included in the minimum
curriculum, it is a subject in which sheriffs have expressed a desire for some additional instructional
assistance to be brought to them on a regional basis. Mr. Berry also expressed interest in developing a
course on jail management for sheriffs and deputies.

        Libraries for Police Officers
Another project that the staff is developing is one in regard to libraries for police officers. We have
submitted a model library for an individual police officer, to be purchased by the city for the officer’s
personal use. Some city managers feel that since the city furnishes the other equipment and tools for a
police officer, they should also furnish him with books, which are also tools of the trade.
We are also working with the State Library to develop a program whereby a police library can be
established in every county in the State, where it is feasible. The library people are very receptive to this
        project.
