Purposes of Subsurface Investigations

           1. To determine the engineering characteristics of the ground so that its

response to the load changes associated with the proposed

                   construction/facility can be evaluated.

           2. To allow the appropriate foundation construction/treatment system to

                   be decided upon.

           3. To establish the degree of difficulty for mass earthworks.

           4. To design and detail out foundation works for construction.

           5. To design and detail slope treatment to earthworks at junctions where

                   change in elevations are required.

           6. To allow a realistic construction budget to be worked out.

           7. To allow a realistic construction time and resources schedule to be

                   worked out.
