       ABSTRAK

Reliability of site investigation is the degree to which the methods,
techniques, or tests used to explore and assess the ground conditions
and engineering properties of a site produce consistent and accurate
results. Reliable site investigation is essential for any civil engineering
or building project, as it enables the design of safe, durable, and
economical geotechnical works that are compatible with the
subsurface environment. Site investigation involves four stages:
reconnaissance, data and map study, field investigation, and
laboratory testing. Reliability of site investigation can be improved by
following the established standards, specifications, and guidelines for
planning, conducting, and reporting site investigation.

There are various standards, specifications, and guidelines being
used as references by geotechnical engineers within the department,
covering every aspect and stage of site investigation work. It’s
important that everyone involved in geotechnical engineering has
access to, understands, and familiarizes themselves with the
requirements of all the relevant standards, specifications, and
regulations that affect their work. A full understanding and
compliance with the relevant specifications, guidelines, and practices
are necessary to ensure that sufficient and reliable site investigation
work can be done successfully. This presentation will discuss the
requirements and standard practices of site investigation work and
several case studies based on the speaker’s past experiences.
