2. Themes of Songs
As we know that song lyrics are part of the messages of music. In popular music. Lyrics often have
common themes. Many songs are about romantic relationships, and some are about conditions in the
word. Some songs are serious, some are easy. Some songs lyrics try to make the listeners think, while
some are intended to simply allow the listeners relax and amused. Therefore, each song has its own
theme. There are some themes of the songs as the followings:
a. love
b. friendship
c. family
d. life
3. How to understand of songs
Song must have meaning. To understand a song, we should know the earning. The following are ways to
figure out a song's meaning.
a. Listen to the song while reading the lyrics.
b. Read the lyrics on their own to interpret their meaning. You will find the speaker, the word, I, You, or,
we refer to.
c. Focus on concrete imagery and sense. Lyrics describe a sense of feeling with images, not just vague
ideas or phrases.
d. Unpack o expose unusual or poetic phrases one at time, for example the use of figurative language.
They are when the words don't literally mean what they say.
