A member of staff who resigns without giving notice and fails to pay to the school
the amount due in lieu of notice and any other form of financial obligation owed to
the school will be liable to a breach of contract and may be subject to litigation.
In the event of employment termination by the employer for disciplinary reasons,
the termination of such employee’s appointment may be without notice, but such
employee will receive his/her salary till the last working day. Such disciplinary
reasons may include but not limited to:
o Failure or inability of a staff member to discharge his/her duty satisfactorily.
o Habitual late coming to duty or persistent absence from work with or without
permission.
o Receipt of formal/written warning two times and a disciplinary probation
o Corrupt practice of any form.
o After the outcome of an investigation when on suspension
o Misrepresentation as to qualification at the time of applying for employment.
o Health reason where the management feels the employee is not medically fit to
carry out his/her assigned duty.
o General downsizing in staff strength.
o Violation of any of the school’s policy.
o At the discretion of management without disclosing or assigning any reason
4.3.2 Summary Dismissal: for grievous offences which are unacceptable, in which case
no notice is required. In addition, the employee will forfeit his/her entitlements apart
from the salary/wages due and those required by the law e.g. pensions remittances.
4.3.3 Disengagement by the employer due to restructuring in which case the employer is
expected to pay all entitlements due to the employee.
4.3.4 RETIREMENT:
Statutory:
The retirement age for every employee shall be 60 years of age or 25 years continuous
service in the service of the organization; whichever is earlier.
The management shall give six months’ notice and advise such employee on preparation
for retirement. The school reserves the right to re-appoint retired staff members on a
contract basis for fixed periods.
4.3.5 Early retirement:
This can be due to ill health or other causes for which the employee is incapacitated and
unable to carry out his/her duties for over a maximum period of 3 months.
If the incapacitation is confirmed to be as a result of injury sustained in the line of duty,
then the period for which a compulsory retirement will be effective is after a maximum
period of three months of being unable to carry out his/her duties.
