NAN MAZZOLA’S SESAME COOKIES
Ingredients
2 eggs 1 cup sugar
1 pound margarine (2 sticks) 3 ½ cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons vanilla
1 ½ cup sesame seeds milk
Instructions
Mix together eggs, sugar, margarine and vanilla. Add flour and baking powder. Blend
well. Roll dough into rope. Cut into 2 inch pieces. Dip in milk and roll into sesame
seeds. Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until done.
NAN MAZZOLA’S ANISE BISCOTTI SLICE
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter softened 3/4 cup sugar
3 large eggs 1 tablespoon anise extract
3 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons crushed anise seed
Instructions
In a bowl, with an electric mixer, cream butter and beat in sugar a little at a time and
beat the mixture until it is light and flu y. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well
after each addition and then beat in anise extract. In another bowl combine flour,
baking powder, salt and the anise seed and beat the mixture into the butter mixture
to form sticky dough. Halve the dough and with floured hands, pat each half into a
14x4 inch rectangle and place on a buttered baking sheet. Brush the rectangle well
with egg wash and bake them in the upper third of a preheated 375 degree oven for
20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown. Put knife through and see if it comes
out clean. Cut the rectangles cross wise diagonally into 3/4 inch slices. Turn the
slices on their sides and bake them in the 375 degree oven for about 5 minutes. Turn
the slices and bake them 5 more minutes. Let the slices cool on a rack. Makes about
34 cookies. Store in an airtight container
