And their amazing persistence now makes these ancients appropriate for precisely something
as overly modern as the bicycle rider. I would almost dare to say the sloeqi is never tired.
After an eighty-kilometre trip behind the bicycle (as one of the owners of the sloeqis in our
country told me): “I came home with my dog, who was not even a year old at the time, and who
didn't even show any inclination to rest immediately.”
Let me first give a short description of the ideal sloeqi:
Shoulder height: for males 65 to 70 cm for bitches 60 to 66 cm.
General appearance: a medium-sized noble animal, quick, agile, elegant with intelligent gaze
and movements. Dry, very developed muscles; as little fat as possible. Very slender.
Head: long and narrow with jackal-like profile; eyes dark and large; ears carried behind.
Neck: muscular with beautiful roundness.
Chest: very deep; reaches to the elbow joint.
Body: short in relation to the length of the legs.
Abdomen: strongly tucked up.
Legs: very thin but very muscular; the paws must be clearly visible through the skin. As high
as possible. Toes well closed.
Tail: firmly curled; not sideways; must reach to the heel when stretched out.
Hair: very short and soft to the touch.
Colour: light sandy, not reddish; eyes dark surrounded by black eyelashes and black
spectacles making the eyes appear larger; black mask, nails black, soles black, lips black, nose
black.
Character: very gentle, even for visitors although usually poorly dressed people are not liked.
Reliable with children. The sloeqi barks little and then only briefly to warn.
