                           HENNA MARKINGS IN SLOUGHI



        People in the West often ask about the meaning of henna markings on Sloughis. This
        North African tradition is best explained by North Africans themselves. This is what they
        say.

        For the henna question there are three main reasons:


        The first is to protect the Sloughi's legs against infection from wounds after hunting.

        The second is for aesthetics.
        The third and it depends on the region is considered a good luck charm.


        And in certain cases, for a newborn horse, Sloughi, or calf...for long life expectancy and
        good health.



        And it is the grandmother, or the oldest lady of the house, who must apply it.


        I remember my grandmother applying it to the calves on their foreheads, to have the
        Baraka (Blessing).
