First and foremost does the system of breeding according to a standard provide
appropriate guidelines. These guidelines collide with purely functional considerations of
"improving" the Sloughi with short-haired Salukis.
As Xavier Przezdziecki explains, Sloughis are heavier-built than Salukis. His description of
Sloughis as "calves" is sufficiently understandable. This makes Salukis and Sloughis of
type two different sighthounds!
The first uncertainties regarding origin in relation to the applicable FCI standards arise in
the case of Egypt, Sinai and Israel, which, however, no longer belong to the areas listed as
countries of origin for the Sloughi in the FCI standard. Further research is needed with
regard to Egypt. The countries of origin Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya are
considered as secured countries of origin, with Morocco being the standard leading
country.
The topic of "improving a breed" according to a standard. Today, many selected breeds
are based on mixtures of landraces in order to establish improvements in the new breeds.
One hopes for advantages, but often receives disadvantages.
What impact do "new insights" have? A few thoughts about this.
