Al Maktoum the ruling family of Dubai. That was a coursing, it was still allowed back then. I
travelled to Scotland several times to the biggest coursing of the year. 32 Salukis and 32
Deerhounds. It was called the Dava Cup and lasted 3 to 4 days.

Thomas Liedtke: ... So you travelled to Dubai and Susi Leimbacher was with you? You also

initiated litters there, as can be read in a letter from Burchard?
Yes, at least two litters. Elisabeth (Dawsari, author’s note) had two from the 2nd litter. A
male Laba'an and a female, whose name I have forgotten.

Thomas Liedtke:... she writes that the bitch's name was Lathma. (meaning Elizabeth
        Dawsari, author's note)
The male dog was the most beautiful Saluki I had ever seen.

Thomas Liedtke: Elizabeth (Dawsari) writes La'aban, you write Laba'an. It makes no
difference, Elizabeth will correct me, but in the end it is confusing.

I don't remember the spelling, it was over 30 years ago. I had separated from Susi back then,
she had collected more and more dogs and I couldn't take any more.

Thomas Liedtke: Did she have any ideas about breeding? Breeders have different

temperaments. ... So she had a vision?
I just liked the type and the way they interacted with each other.

Thomas Liedtke: John Burchard writes that he breeds according to his idea of a hunting
dog. So you provided the impetus for the breeding? Did you have any ideas about Susi?
        We agreed on that.

        Also with John.

Thomas Liedtke: Is it fair to say that litter mates were put together instinctively? The
hunting side was basically a given, but it can be consciously adopted or seen as

        secondary.
The choice was very deliberate. I don't know what happened later in the USA with John and
Susi. But with great success in coursing.

Thomas Liedtke: Just for orientation: Susanne Leimbacher is also Susanne Mühlemann, is

        that right?
Yes, after her divorce from John Burchard, she took her maiden name again. She had two
girls from her first marriage to Leimbacher.
