... I worked in the Dubai Army. There we had chai sulemani and kawa in the morning.
Worked from 7 to 12 from Saturday to Thursday, Friday was free.

Almost everyone was in the military in Switzerland, it's compulsory. The Salukis brought me
to Dubai. I knew someone from the Al Maktum family. This sheikh was responsible for
purchasing and administration in the Dubai Army.

Thomas Liedtke: Ah, you went to Dubai for the Salukis? On a military mission as a Swiss
national? Is that fair to say?
No, as a civilian employee of the army administration. Dubai and Abu Dhabi had their own
army. There was a great rivalry between the two emirates at the time.

Thomas Liedtke: But you went there because of the Salukis?
Yes, this sheikh was a great hunter with Salukis. He had seen a Saluki bred by us at a
coursing in England and really wanted to have one. That's how we got to know each other.

Thomas Liedtke: Have you bred Salukis before? And when you say "us", with Susanne
        Leimbacher?

Exactly. The breeding name ("Tepe Gawra") ran to Susi. There were two litters in
        Switzerland.
