Natural dog breeds such as the Africanis or the Borzoi, as presented and described by
Boldareff as a breeding strategy, offer a genetically and strategically sound basis for
breeding in the long term. In this strategy, each breeder can develop his preferred traits.
Favouring a single type leads to genetic isolation and is doomed to failure from the
outset. In order to breed successfully in the long run, a solid knowledge of history, the
“knowledge of old blood” (Boldareff) is indispensable. With good breeding, the types must
remain stable.
The hunting dog Sloughi can be considered as an original type of hunting partner with
humans, possibly similar to the earlier wolf or dog types. The Sloughi works freely in the
field without being led on a leash. After a successful hunt, the Sloughi gets its share as is
the custom with all hunters who go hunting with a dog. The game species that the Sloughi
has hunted since ancient times are hare, fox, jackal/Golden wolf and gazelle.
